In an era of declining Jewish engagement, Partners in Torah offers a unique and powerful solution. Since 1993, we've connected over 100,000 participants from 3,116 cities across 39 countries, fostering enduring Jewish connections through personalized, one-on-one learning partnerships.

Generally, partnerships learn for about 30 minutes, once a week. We strongly recommend both the student and the mentor have the same text in front of them and use it as a springboard for learning and discussion.

Most of our partners like to spend the first few minutes schmoozing (casual chatting) before diving into their chosen text, taking turns reading and discussing.

Your first call (or 'kickoff call,' as we call it) is an opportunity to introduce yourselves to one another, select a topic or book you'd like to start with, and set a day and time for your weekly call. Your schedules may change, but it's a good idea to have a regular time to meet and then modify as needed.

When you register, we ask a number of questions to make sure you get paired with the right person. As soon as we find the right match for you, we’ll schedule your kick-off call (and of course, you’ll be notified well in advance).

A number of factors go into being matched, including gender, age, having compatible topics of interest, and time availability. We try to pair people in a similar age bracket and, to ensure comfort, men are paired with men, women with women. The wider range of topics you’re interested in and the more times you’re available, the better chances you have of being matched. Here’s a tip: If you want to get matched sooner, try being a bit more flexible with your availability or add more topics. You can easily update your preferences on your settings page!

Good question! It really depends… Some people are paired within minutes of signing up, others unfortunately may wait longer. Many variables go into finding the right match and a lot depends on the availability of someone that fits your schedule and timetable. (The availability of volunteer mentors interested in the same topics and available at the same times as you is outside our control.)

The mentors are regular people, usually not rabbis or professional educators, who voluntarily offer 30-45 minutes a week to share their knowledge with a fellow Jew. Former Partners in Torah students often sign up as mentors and we think that's awesome! It’s their way of paying it forward in the Jewish community.

That's perfectly fine! Partners in Torah is designed for learners of all levels, including complete beginners. Our mentors are experienced in tailoring the learning experience to match your current knowledge and interests.

The materials you’ll need depend on the topic you choose—so it’s all about what you’re interested in!. Visit library.partnersintorah.org to choose the categories that interest you, then browse through previews of several study options. Many other resources are available at Aish.com and other websites, and your mentor can guide you on where to find the necessary materials. (Useful hack: Some partnerships use screen sharing to view texts together!)

Yes, you can. Whether your partner isn't the right fit or if you'd like to explore a different topic, you're always just a click away from our support team. Let them know if there's a problem or clarify your goals so that they can find a better match. Before you make a change though, we suggest you give it a few tries. It's like a first date — it sometimes doesn't feel right, but then, things may click. If you're pretty sure it won't work, especially if there's something concerning, please contact our support team right away.

We get it—life happens! If you need to miss a session, just give your partner a heads-up and find another time that works for both of you. Staying in touch regularly, even when you aren’t able to study together will make your partnership flourish.

While we typically match strangers to promote new connections within the Jewish community, we understand that some people might feel more comfortable learning with someone they know. If you have a specific person in mind, please contact our support team, and we'll do our best to accommodate your request.

No, Partners in Torah is completely free. We’re determined not to let cost get in the way of a Jewish person's desire to know more and to connect with other Jews. Our service is made possible through the generosity of donors who believe in our mission of making Jewish learning accessible to all. We run a couple of fundraising projects during the year and certainly appreciate when participants contribute – something that enables us to offer the same service to others.

There is something we want from you… we want your feedback. If it's negative, we need to know how we can do a better job. If it's positive, we'll be thrilled if you tell us. Better yet, tell your friends!

The process of signing up takes about 10 minutes. Just click here and select if you would like to learn or teach and then fill in the form that follows.

Partners in Torah pairs Jews from around the world to learn with one another, regardless of background.

Unfortunately, we require an email address and phone number in order to participate in our program. This way we’re able to reach you easily to tell you about your new partner, do follow up and check-ins, and let you know about all of the great things happening here at Partners in Torah.

We only allow individuals 18 years and older to participate in our program.

Partners in Torah is a volunteer-fueled organization. Unfortunately at this time we only have the resources to service the Jewish community.

Yes! You can continue where you left off. You should have received an email with instructions on how to complete your registration. You can also view the “I need help logging into my account” section of this page

Click here to log into your account and update your settings. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and select “Find me a partner.”

Our participants get ongoing communication with our dedicated support staff, access to our digital library, the weekly newsletter, special events, short term learning programs, and monthly raffles.

Although there is no cost to participate in the program, we do expect our students to take their involvement seriously. Once you have a set day and time to learn with your partner, please do your best to keep the appointment. If something comes up and you need to cancel or reschedule, please reach out to your mentor as soon as possible. Remember, all of our mentors are volunteers, so please respect them and value their time.

The Partners in Torah support team is available to assist all of our participants during regular business hours. We have staff available Monday through Thursday from 9AM to 5PM and Fridays 9AM to 1PM ET. We are here to offer guidance, hear exciting updates, and share in your learning experience.

We suggest multiple forms of contact. Don’t feel uncomfortable reaching out to them several times before seeking our assistance. Try calling, texting, emailing or sending a WhatsApp and hopefully your partner will respond to you soon! There are times when situations come up where individuals are not responsive, but everyone wants to hear from their Partner in Torah.
