What is Partners in Torah?

We pair curious Jews with knowledgeable mentors for
meaningful learning, shared growth, and real connection.

Once matched, partners meet for 30–45 minutes each week via phone or video chat to explore any Jewish topic they choose. Some partners like to prep, others just show up and learn. There’s no pressure — just two people talking, learning, and exploring Judaism together.

Plot twist:
The mentors are the ones
who often benefit the most.

When you teach something, you understand it better. When you answer questions, you discover new perspectives. And when you help someone else show up consistently, you make time for the learning you've always wanted to prioritize. Ready to grow while giving?

How it Works

Someone is waiting to
learn Torah from you.

Someone is
waiting to
learn Torah
from you.

You might be wondering...

Absolutely! Many of our best mentors once thought they only knew "the basics." What matters most is your willingness to share what you do know and learn alongside your student.

Maybe next week, maybe in a few months! When you sign up, we'll add you to our pool of mentors. We'll call on you when we have a potential student. Sometimes getting paired up happens quickly, other times it may take longer, depending on student needs and compatibility.

You'll decide together with your student based on mutual interests. Many partnerships enjoy exploring weekly Parsha, Jewish self-development books, or basic Jewish concepts. Or you can choose from our popular Partners in Torah curricula.

Not necessarily. Some mentors prepare thoroughly, while others simply choose a book to read together. Both approaches work beautifully, and we provide plenty of resources to support you either way.

You’re not on your own. We have a support team available five days a week. You’ll also get access to our digital resource library, packed with articles, videos, and guided learning materials. We’re here to support you!

Not at all! Most partnerships connect via phone or video call. You can mentor from anywhere with an internet connection or phone.

Life happens! Just let us know if you need to adjust your schedule or take a pause. We'll work with you to find a solution that works for everyone.

There's no formal time commitment beyond your weekly sessions. Many partnerships continue for years because they're so rewarding, but you're never locked into a specific timeframe.

Every student-mentor relationship is different, but it should never feel like a burden. If you're not getting something meaningful out of it, just let us know—we’ll match you with someone else.

Absolutely! When we send you a prospective mentee, just let us know you're not available, and let us know when we can reach out again. Adding your name to our mentor reserve now helps us plan for future student needs.
